Reyna Montoya, LMFT · San Francisco

A sacred space, with faith as an option

Faith is optional here, and other beliefs are welcome. Reyna offers depth-oriented therapy for adults, in person in San Francisco or by video if you are in California.

  • Faith and doubt
  • Grief and loss
  • Life changes
  • Family ties
  • Feeling enough
  • Burnout
  • Belonging
  • Letting go

Does this sound familiar?

You don't have to carry this alone. These are some of the things that bring people to our door.

  • A mind that won't quiet

A constant hum of worry that won't settle, however much you reason with it.

  • Faith that feels far away

Prayer or church used to steady you. Now it feels distant, or complicated, or both.

  • Grief that stays

Losses, old and new, that still carry weight you haven't been able to set down.

  • Old patterns

The same relationship dynamics, playing out again and again.

How Reyna works

Each approach is chosen with you, and explained before it begins.

  1. Core

    Depth-oriented therapy

Looking at the patterns beneath how you feel and relate, through conversation, memory and dreams if you bring them.

  2. Optional

    Faith in therapy

Prayer, scripture and your church's language can be part of sessions if you want them. If you don't, nothing changes.

  3. Body

    Body-aware work

Noticing breath, tension and pace in the room. Gentle, slow and always by invitation.

  4. Loss

    Grief and loss

Room for what has been lost, without rushing or fixing, and without a timetable.

“Nobody asked me to explain my faith or to defend it. I was simply listened to.”

Rooted in reverence, open to every belief

I'm Reyna Montoya, a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Francisco. I work with adults, one at a time, on the questions that don't fit in a short appointment: loss, belonging, faith, and the patterns that repeat.

Faith is optional here. If prayer or scripture is part of how you cope, it is welcome in the room. If it isn't, or you hold another belief or none, that is just as welcome. I don't bring my own beliefs into your therapy.

  • Reverence

Respect for what you hold sacred, or don't.

  • Depth

Time for the question beneath the question.

  • Presence

My full attention for the whole session.

  • Pace

You set the speed, and can change it.

  • “The pace was mine. When I wanted to sit quietly for a few minutes, that was fine.”

    Aileen P.
  • “Praying before we began was my choice, and so was skipping it the next week.”

    Latasha G.
  • “I'm not Christian, and I felt welcome from the first minute.”

    Geeta R.
  • “The room is quiet and unhurried. I never felt rushed out the door.”

Your path in

From first message to steady work

A clear, gentle way in, at your pace.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Your message

You write to us through the form below. We reply on weekdays with a time for a first session, or with a referral if another clinician would suit you better.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The first session

A conversation, not a test. You say what you want from therapy and what you want to leave alone for now.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Regular sessions

Most people meet weekly at first. Your clinician sets the pace with you and does not promise a number of sessions.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Checking in

From time to time we look at what is helping and what is not, and change course together.
